German's greatest fears

As per the survey by R+V, here are the top five fears of Germans as of 2024.

  • The rising cost of living
  • Germany is overburdened by refugees
  • Unaffordable housing in Germany
  • Tensions due to the influx of foreigners
  • Tax increases/reduction of benefits

As you can see, two of the top five fears are related to immigration. How it'll impact expats in Germany, only time will tell. However, you should keep an eye on the political development in Germany.

Taking advantage of these fears, AfD is gaining support in some federal states of Germany. This is after the German intelligence agency labeled them as far-right extremists.

AfD rising support

Infratest-dimap ran a survey in which 1321 Germans who were eligible to vote participated.

All the participants affiliated with political parties other than AfD consider AfD to be a threat to German democracy. But still, many of these people support AfD's stance on limiting immigration.

Eurowings and Ryanair cut flights from and to Germany

Due to high airport costs and taxes, Ryanair and Eurowings announced they would cut the flights from/to Hamburg, Berlin, and other German cities. The reason is that high taxes and costs make it tough to operate on these routes profitably.

Unfortunately, this move will make travel from and to German cities expensive.
