Your unfair advantage in Germany

Essentials

Finance : The government plans to pay 10 € per month toward your child's retirement. It is part of the proposal "Frühstart-Rente". The law is expected to pass in 2026. The state will pay €10 per month into a personal pension investment account for each child aged 6–18 attending school in Germany. Read more ->

Finance : Investing in German new builds. We had a great session last Friday on investing in German real estate. If you missed the webinar, you can access the webinar slides and recordings here. You can book a call to discuss and clarify your questions here.

Health : Clean your fridge at least once a month. In a recent study by the University of Vienna, researchers found harmful, antibiotic‑resistant bacteria in the household fridge, regardless of the fridge's temperature. If you neglect regular cleaning, germs from spoiled food and pathogens like Listeria can build up. This increases the risk of food poisoning, diarrhea, vomiting, and, in vulnerable people, potentially life‑threatening infections.[1]

Rights : Your employer must inform you of your rights in writing on day 1. The new rules have been applied since 1 January 2026. The purpose is to protect foreign employees from exploitation. The document must list employees' legal rights and the address of the nearest Faire Integration advice centre. If you started a new job in 2026 and haven't received this notice, ask your HR to provide it. Read more ->

Pay transparency to fight the gender pay gap and the exploitation of expats by companies

All EU countries must implement the EU directive (Directive 2023/970) by June 2026. Here is what it entails.

  • Employers must state the starting salary or salary range in job ads or before interviews. Employers can no longer ask about your past pay.
  • You can request information about your pay and the average pay of colleagues doing the same or equal‑value work. The information must be broken down by gender. The criteria for pay and progression must be objective, transparent, and gender‑neutral.
  • Employers with at least 100 workers must regularly publish gender pay data and indicators.
  • If an unjustified gender pay gap of at least 5% is identified within a category of equal or equal‑value work, a joint pay assessment with employee representatives is required.
  • Contract clauses that forbid employees from disclosing their pay will no longer be valid.
  • The burden of proof regarding the equal pay shifts to the employer. Currently, the burden of proof lies with you.
  • Workers who suffer gender-based pay discrimination are entitled to full compensation, without a cap.

If you believe you are currently underpaid relative to colleagues in a comparable role, document your case now. The new law will make it easier to claim compensation.

What does teaching an AI agent a skill mean?

Like we as human beings learn skills over time. Similarly, we can teach AI agents skills.

Let's take an example to understand it.

Suppose you hired an intern to create a sprint review presentation for stakeholders. The goal is to showcase what your team achieved during the sprint.

You'll probably tell the intern the following to make this presentation.

  • Prepare the presentation using this tool (e.g., PowerPoint, Gamma, etc.)
  • Use the company's default theme. You can find it here.
  • Our team name is X, and we do Y.
  • Always start the presentation wth a vision and a short About Us slide.
  • Next, mention the things the team achieved in this sprint. You can find all closed items (Jira tickets) here.
  • Link to short demo (if any)
  • End the presentation with the impact on our customers. You can find our customer persona here.
  • If you have any questions, email me or DM me.

This is exactly what you will document in a SKILL.md file (word-for-word). And your agent now has a new skill: creating a sprint review presentation.

As you may imagine, your intern will need access to your

  • ticketing system (e.g., Jira)
  • presentation tool (e.g., PowerPoint)
  • documents containing customer persona, team vision, team members' details, etc.

Similarly, your agent needs access to all these tools.

You don't expect your intern to prepare the perfect presentation in one go. You'll share

  • Your feedback with them.
  • Change the way you communicate your ideas.
  • Provide more information (context) if required.

The same principle applies when working with AI agents.

What does a SKILLs in Claude look like?
