Finance : The Bundesrat has approved a 14.04-cent-per-liter cut to the energy tax on petrol and diesel. This will lead to a gross saving of 17 cents (incl. VAT) per liter. The reduction applies from May 1 to June 30, 2026. The cut will cost the government 1.6 billion euros in lost tax revenue. [3]
Law :Germany's Federal Cabinet approved a draft bill mandating that internet service providers (ISPs) retain IP addresses for 3 months. The goal is to target cybercrimes, such as darknet platforms or fake online stores. If the authority won't give an appointment to submit the application/documents, go to the immigration office and submit all your documents in their post box. Take someone with you as a witness and collect evidence that you submitted the application in their post box. You don't have to wait years just to hand in your application.
Authorities respond to lawyer letters because they arrive via a dedicated legal portal (beA), bypassing the daily flood of queries. Moreover, involving a lawyer usually means a lawsuit will follow. This is something authorities want to avoid if possible.

Higher health insurance premiums proposed for high earners
Federal Health Minister Nina Warken proposed that high earners will be charged additional fees from 2027 onwards to stabilize the public health system's finances.
The government plans a one-time increase of €300 per month to the contribution assessment ceiling. Contribution assessment ceiling is the maximum income considered to calculate your public health insurance premium.
Switching to private health insurance is not about picking the cheapest plan to save money. The costs will blow up in the long term.
If you decide to get private health insurance, always plan for the future. Ensure your insurance plan sets aside enough money for your old-age reserves to keep premiums stable in your later years.
