Finance : Germany's federal EV subsidy portal is now live and accepting applications. Subsidies range from €1,500 to €6,000 per vehicle. Eligibility criteria is:
Your taxable annual household income must be €80,000 or less. The threshold rises by €5,000 per child up to a maximum of €90,000 for households with two or more children.
You must be purchasing or leasing a new electric vehicle for the first time. Used EVs are not covered. Read more ->
Proposals : The German government is considering cutting Elterngeld. The government has proposed 4 measures.
Lowering the household income eligibility threshold further. If you earn above the threshold, you are not eligible for the Elterngeld.

Law : Germany's Bundestag approved cutting the aviation tax. The new tax will take effect from July 1, 2026. Here are the tax drops based on flight distance
Short-haul: Reduced from €15.53 to €13.03 per passenger.
Medium-haul: Reduced from €39.34 to €33.01 per passenger.
Long-haul: Reduced from €70.83 to €59.43 per passenger. [3]
Law : Drug-facilitated sexual assault and robbery using K.o.-Tropfen (knock-out drops) is classified as an aggravated offense equivalent to weapon use. Rights : You'll soon have the right to affordable repairs for electronics and household appliances (EU Right-to-Repair Directive). Manufacturers must make spare parts and repair information available. If a manufacturer refuses to repair the appliance at a reasonable cost, you can file a complaint with Verbraucherzentral or Verbraucherschutzbehörden. Read more ->
Rights : You can cancel digital train tickets free of charge. You must cancel them within 3 hours before their first day of validity. This also applies to "non-refundable" tickets. You also get a refund for reserved seats. Here is how you do it.

Travel : Rail operators are required to sell competitors' tickets. They must also share data with external booking platforms. Rail operators are required to implement this by 2029. The rail operators include DB, NS, Trenitalia, SBB, and SNCF. You'll gain stronger rights to rerouting and reimbursement for cross-border train delays. Lower ticket prices are expected as competition increases. [2]
Crypto Tax Reporting Gets More Transparent
Crypto exchanges and brokers must collect and report customer and transaction data to the tax authorities. The BZSt has opened registration for crypto exchanges.
Nothing changes for you in terms of crypto trading and taxes. The tax authorities will now get the data directly from the crypto exchange.
This provides the tax office with greater transparency into your transactions. In other words, crypto is moving closer to the transparency found in a classic brokerage account.
The reporting framework applies from 1 January 2026. The first reporting year is 2026. [1]

Apple account: Emails claiming that your Apple account has been restricted and requires verification. The link leads to a fake Apple login page. The goal is to steal your credentials and payment information. [1]
