  • We helped thousands of expats navigate life in Germany with confidence.

It wouldn't have been possible without your support. Thank you all for being part of this amazing journey.

Essentials

Law : New Data Use & Implementation Act (DADG) is live. You now have the right to access data generated by your connected devices, including smart cars and household appliances. It'll be easier to switch your Cloud providers. Moreover, companies must offer interfaces to the users to transfer or share their data. If your service provider refuses to give you access to your data, you can file a complaint with BNetzA. Read more →

Law : Germany's Cabinet approved the National Circular Economy Action Program. The program introduces

  • Digital product passports
  • AI-supported recycling systems
  • Mandatory circular criteria for federal procurement
  • National coordination platform for industry actors.

The goal is to reduce Germany's dependence on imported raw materials by improving the durability and repairability of the products. Read more →

Immigration : Germany has naturalized 52,180 victims of Nazi persecution and their descendants since 2021. The Bundesverwaltungsamt received 101,180 applications for Wiedergutmachungseinbürgerung between early 2021 and the end of March 2026. Under this, you don't need to prove German language skills. If you need support with Wiedergutmachungseinbürgerung, German citizenship, family reunion, etc., you can contact an immigration lawyer in Germany. We recommend LegalWeg*.

Proposals : Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil supports a proposal from the German Trade Union Confederation to make company pensions mandatory. Currently, a company pension is optional for employees to opt in. Around 20 million employees in Germany have no company pension plan. The DGB will present a concrete plan by the end of June. The government will discuss the proposal before July 10. [2]

Changes in June

  1. June 1: EU Data Act Enforcement Begins (DADG). You now have rights over data generated by your connected devices.
  2. June 4: Germany Must Give Basic Benefits to Dublin Asylum Seekers. The EU Court of Justice ruled that Germany cannot withhold clothing, household goods, or cash from asylum seekers whose cases are pending transfer to another EU state under the Dublin system.
  3. June 7: Germany Misses EU Pay Transparency Deadline. The directive would have given employees the right to request information about their salary range and the pay levels of colleagues in comparable roles.
  4. June 10: Cabinet Approves Telecom Law Amendment (TKG Reform). The reform aims to accelerate the expansion of fiber and mobile networks across Germany. The telecom industry targets 5.6 million new fiber connections in 2026.
  5. June 11: AI Act Implementing Law (KIDAG) Passed by Bundestag. The Bundesnetzagentur will act as the national AI market surveillance authority.
  6. June 11: Second Bürokratieabbau Law Passed. The goal is to reduce the bureaucracy and administrative burden on companies and residents. Under the law, multiple reporting requirements are eliminated with immediate effect.
  7. June 12: EU Common Asylum System Now Applies in Germany (GEAS). This replaces the old Dublin system. Germany now conducts mandatory border screenings and identity checks for all new applicants. Family asylum is abolished, and asylum seekers whose claims are fast-tracked at the border can receive work authorization within 10 days if recognized. Cash benefits are reduced for those who obstruct deportation.
  8. June 12: Pensions Rise 4.24% from July 1. The Rentenwert (pension value per earnings point) rises from €40.79 to €42.52.
  9. June 12: Electronic Ankle Monitors for Domestic Violence Perpetrators. The monitor alerts police in real time if the perpetrator approaches a protected exclusion zone around the victim. Germany handles over 250,000 domestic violence cases per year.
  10. June 12: The Bundestag passed a law requiring immigration authority approval for paternity recognitions where an "immigration-related gap" exists. The law closes a gap that some foreign nationals have used to obtain residence through paternity claims.
  11. June 12: Bundesrat Pushes Back on Health Insurance Reform (GKV BStabG). If the law is delayed, statutory health insurers may raise supplementary contribution rates in 2027.
  12. June 12: The emergency care reform law cleared its first reading in the Bundesrat. The law creates Integrated Emergency Centers (INZ) that combine hospital A&E, GP out-of-hours services, and the 116117 medical helpline in one location. The goal is to redirect non-emergency patients away from hospital emergency departments.
  13. June 12: Bundesrat Issues 67-Point Critique of Heating Law (GModG). The new law replaces the 2023 heating mandate.
  14. June 14: Honey products must list every country of origin with exact percentage shares. For dairy products, manufacturers must meet specific legal criteria to label products as "pasteurised," "fresh," "heat-treated," or "lactose-free."
  15. June 19: All online retailers and subscription service providers operating in Germany must display a clearly visible, permanently accessible cancellation button on their website.
  16. June 30: Germany's fuel tax discount (Tankrabatt) expires at the end of June 2026. Drivers should expect pump prices to rise from July 1.
  17. Coming July 1: Germany's Bürgergeld long-term unemployment benefit is renamed Grundsicherungsgeld and significantly restructured.
  18. Coming July 1: The Bundesrat approved the aviation tax reduction law on June 12. This cuts the air travel tax back to pre-May 2024 levels from July 1, 2026.

Phishing : The following phishing attempts have been reported.

  • Unexpected invoices and debt collection letters for horoscope website subscriptions. Operators regularly change their site names and are registered in London and the US. Receiving an invoice does not mean the claim is legally valid. Dispute the claim in writing.
  • Fake emails impersonating DKB and Commerzbank. Scammers threaten to lock your accounts unless you take immediate action. [1]

Product Recall : The following products have been recalled by the manufacturer.

  • Vegan Mühlen Cordon Bleu with soy protein. The company states that isolated transparent plastic particles may be present in the affected batches. It could pose a health risk if consumed. [2]

AI Corner

  • New launch : Anthropic launched Fabel 5 and took it down. The US government applied export control on Fable 5. Only US nationals can have access to Fabel 5. No foreign national, regardless of where they are located, can access Fabel 5 and Mythos AI models.
  • Burning Tokens : OpenAI and Anthropic give you $8000 to $14,000 worth of tokens for your $200 subscription. SemiAnalysis, a research firm, found this out in their test. They maxed out weekly usage limits and compared raw compute costs to subscription prices. You can read their findings here. No one knows how long the AI labs will continue to absorb the costs.
  • Trend : As AI models become more powerful and reach parity, pricing has gained importance. This has led to two trends:
    • A price war among the AI companies
    • A rise in open-source models running locally. Keep an eye on companies that will start manufacturing computers to run AI models locally.
  • Learn : If you are tired of the same web designs built by AI. Check out this video where Victor shares how he builds amazing web pages using Claude.
